Everett Road Covered Bridge

This past Sunday I meetup with a group of photographers that I found out about on Meetup  at the Everett Road Covered Bridge in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.  There were approx. 6 of us there.

The intended purpose of the Meetup was to do HDR Photography of the bridge.  We were there for about 2 hours and took lots of photos.  You can see the ones I took and processed on this page.

I enjoyed it and look forward to meeting up with these folks in the future.

Hike at the Ledges Trail

Over the weekend the boys and I went on a hike at the Ledges Trail in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.   It was a wonderful warm Spring Day in March.  The park is located in Ohio between the cities of Akron and Cleveland and follows the Cuyahoga River Valley.

I used an Amod AGL3080 GPS Data Logger to track our location and ultimately geotag the photos.  When I got home I used the “Map Module” in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4 and Jeffrey Friedl’s Geoencoding Plugin for Lightroom to add Location Data to the photos.  I have found that the Jeffrey’s Plugin works better then the built-in features of LR for the following reasons:

  • The GPS Logger I am using does not use GPX and must be converted before Lightroom will be able to use it.  Jeffrey’s plugin has options to convert it on the fly and not require any additional effort on my part.
  • The reverse Geoencoding in Jeffrey’s Plugin works better and easier than the native one built into LR and allows you to encode a large number of photos with one click as a batch

Below you will find screen captures of the LR Map Module showing the GPS Track and photo locations.

Sunset at the Ledges Overlook

Photos of sunset at the Ledges Overlook on the Ledges Trail in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.  The park is located in Ohio between the cities of Akron and Cleveland and follows the Cuyahoga River Valley.  The overlook faces west and you can see for miles.

The photos were taken on St Patricks Day, the temps were in the upper 70s, on this day we broke temperature records all over Ohio.

Blue Heron Rookery (Bath Road in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park)

Over the weekend the boys and I made a trip to the Blue Heron Rookery on Bath Road in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park to get some photos.

The lighting conditions good considering that was in the middle of the day.  In the photo above you can see the light coming through the tips of the feathers.

Shots are posted in the Blue Heron Rookery – Bath Road Photo Gallery.

Winter at Blue Hen Falls

Last weekend I made another trip to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park (Northeast Ohio).  I visited Blue Hen Falls.  We also visited a few times in the past few years.

The purpose of this trip was to take photos of the falls with snow and ice present.  There was a snow event on Friday night and I made the trip on Sunday.  I did not see anyone on the trail or at the falls but there was evidence of people being at the falls.  I was very surprised that there were as many foot prints as there were.  I never realized that the park was utilized this much in the winter.

All of the photos taken are HDR photos..   Processed with HDR Efex Pro from Nik Software (this software rocks).  I have added these to my Blue Hen & Buttermilk Falls Photo Gallery.    If you want to see more photos of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park check out my Gallery or other Cuyahoga Valley National Park Blog Posts.
