Driving around in the sun in our Jeep Wrangler with the top off can lead to a sunburn and lots of glare, etc. I have seen and liked the sun shades that are on the market, I thought they were a little on the pricey side and thought about doing my own. I stumbled upon this video on YouTube by How to Wrangler. After I watched the video I knew that I could build one for our 4 door (if you have a 2 door you can build it a little shorter, there are dimensions in the video). So I gathered all the parts and got started. I verified all the measurements from the video and they seemed good.
I gathered all the parts from Home Depot, screenshot of the shopping cart and items are below:

I cut the screening material and enlisted my wife to get the sewing machine out and sewed the edges. The machine did not have any issues going through the material. She did a straight stitch followed by a zip zag across the edge of the screen, this will help to keep the edge down and prevent it ripping.
I then installed the grommets at the locations shown in the video, a screenshot is below. Only thing I might change if I did this again would be to move the ones at the front of the Jeep from 4″ in from the edge to about 6″.

Then I was able to move onto the bungie cords. The video gave lengths of the cords. The ones purchased are 12″ (they were actually closer to 14″). I cut them down as shown but I did notice that the ones at the front of the Jeep which attach to the footman loops needed to be a little shorter than what was suggested.
I installed it and here is the final product.

So, what do you think? Everything cost about $40 and that included the cost of the grommet kit, you may already have that and if you do the total cost would be around $30.
