365 Project

With the end of 2022 comes my annual calendar of photos. This is a Project 365 I started 10 years ago. Every day I take a photo with my iPhone and it gets added to the calendar. Below you can find all 10 years worth of photos. I create a square poster at the end of the year.

I use Collect Photo App to create the monthly calendar. This is an iPhone app and it is easy to use because virtually 100% of the photos for this “Project” are taken on the iPhone. Once I get the monthly calendar done it is imported in to Adobe Lightroom and I create the poster with a Print Template I created. The text at the bottom was created in Pixelmator.

Year 11 starts tomorrow!

Enjoy!

How I Shoot Sports

On Wednesday evening, 28 Sept 2022, I presented “How I Shoot Sports” at the Twinsburg Public Library. It was a very well attended event with people wanting to know how to create better sports photos. Most of them were parents of athletes.

Below you will find the slides and I have provided captions with links and some explanations. of course, it is hard to convey everything we talked about in this blog post, so feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions as I am always willing to help.

At the end of the presentation I showed recent sports photos You can see my favorite sports photos in the gallery and my entire sports collection in this gallery.

I photograph things other than sports, but I best known around town as the sports photographer. You can visit my website and look around at all the photos I have captured throughout the years.

Walt Disney World Fireworks

This summer we visited Walt Disney World for the first time since 2019. we have been visiting regularly every year for a while. But took a little time off when COVID hit. This was the first time we had seen the Disney Enchantment Fireworks Show at the Magic Kingdom. I was very happy with the color version of this photo.

But, then I decided that I would try a B&W Conversion. I am very pleased with the results. I used Nik Silver Efex from the Nik Collection to make the conversion.

What do you think? Which one do you like better?

You can see more B&W Photos that I have taken in this photo gallery on my photography website.

Great Falls of Tinkers Creek

The Great Falls of Tinkers Creek is located on Tinkers Creek in the Viaduct Park of the Cleveland MetroParks in Bedford, Ohio. The waterfall is approx. 15 feet tall and wide. This weekend I made a trip to check it out and update my photo library with some summer photos of the falls. i have been there a few times before as it is fairly close to home.

At the falls you can see the remains of a Grist Mill, Saw Mill, and an Electric Power Plant. you will also see the an old viaduct that carried trains over Tinkers Creek.

Below you will find some photos I took this weekend and you see more in my Bedford Reservation — Viaduct Park Galley on my Photography Website. Enjoy!

How to Shoot Fireworks Photos

Around the 4th of July every year I like to post information on how to shoot fireworks. This year is no exception to that.

I enjoy taking fireworks photos at Walt Disney World because they have wonderful shows and great viewing locations. I like to have something in the foreground when I shoot fireworks to give the image a “place” so that you can see where it was. Walt Disney World is great for this as most of the shows occur over the major landmarks at the parks.

When shooting fireworks you will need a few things: camera, steady tripod, and a cable/remote release at the minimum. Once you get your camera set up on the tripod and you set it and aimed at where you expect the fireworks to appear in the sky you have to do some general setup. I set the camera to “Bulb” mode, this is a mode where the shutter will stay open as long as you hold the cable/remote release button down. I usually set the camera to ISO 100 and an aperture of f/11 as a starting point.

Once the show starts you can hold the shutter open while the bursts are going into the sky. I usually time it so that I get them leaving the ground and close the shutter at the end of the trail coming down out of the sky. Generally my shutter speed is around 6 to 10 seconds.

I have some of my favorite photos of fireworks taken at Walt Disney World below. What do you think about these?

Enjoy!

Rally Armor UR Mud Flaps Install on 2020 Honda Civic Si

Today I installed the Rally Armor UR Mud Flaps Install on my 2020 Honda Civic Si. I got these a few months back but had not installed them yet. Install was super easy and the instructions were well written.

I wanted these because I have been noticing that I am getting a good bit of tar and other matter on the lower parts of the car behind the wheels. I think because it is white that I notice it more than I have on other cars. Plus I wanted to protect the paint from scratches and nicks.

I made a video time lapse of the install on the drivers side of the vehicle. It was the first side I did so it took a little time to understand and follow the directions. The vide is approx 1 min in length so it is a quick watch. It is below.

Photos

How the video was created

I used a GoPro Hero 8 on a time lapse mode to make the video shorter, who would want to watch a long video of someone walking around the garage? I set the GoPro up on a platypod on a shelf at the back of the garage. I mounted the GoPro to the platypod on a ball head and some other mounts. I love how compact the platypod is and also how stable they are. I could have used a tripod but it would have taken up more room in the garage and I would have had to avoid it while I was walking around.

I hope you enjoyed this!

Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad

In September when a I was in Colorado with a group of guys to some Off-Road Trails e decided to take a side trip to the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. We had tickets for the Cascade Canyon Excursion. This takes you up the valley to an intersecting canyon that is breathtaking. The views on the train and at Cascade Canyon are something you have to see. Of course I took the camera and while on the train I took some video. I have some of my favorite photos below and a video on YouTube I out together.

You can see a gallery of all the photos I took on my photography website in this gallery.
