On Wednesday evening, 21 Aug 2024, I presented “How I Shoot Sports” at the Twinsburg Public Library. It was a very well attended event with people wanting to know how to create better sports photos.
Below you will find the slides and I have provided captions with links and some explanations. of course, it is hard to convey everything we talked about in this blog post, so feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions as I am always willing to help.
At the end of the presentation I showed recent sports photos. You can see my Favorite Sports Photos – 2023/2024 (School Year) Gallery and the and my entire sports collection in this gallery.
And you check out all of my Sports Blog Posts. I usually post up my favorite images after every event. Great place to see my work.
I photograph things other than sports, but I best known around town as the sports photographer. You can visit my website and look around at all the photos I have captured throughout the years.
Near the end of presentation the topic of the 2024 Summer Olympics came up. I mentioned that I have been following a photographer that does Olympics Photography by the name of Jeff Cable. You can see a behind the scenes look at sports photography at the Olympics on Jeff Cables Blog and his 53 posts from Paris. I follow his blog and always enjoys the Olympics Posts.

Thank you for the comments. You made some very good points that I did not consider for this presentation. I was only focusing on capturing the photos. I will add your points to it the next time I present! See you on the field soon.

Loved your slides. I think any and all serious shooters that want to get great shots need to understand the concepts behind aperture, shutter speed, ISO, field of view, etc… Your comments about capturing ball, face, emotion are on point as well. I notice many photogs that don’t consider cropping a post process. I think everyone that loves to shoot, better love to crop – it’s just something that makes photos pop!
One final suggestion that I didn’t notice that I hope comes up for discussion – always seek an athletic directors permission to shoot on any field or gym floor and learn what OHSAA restrictions are for those who have that permission. Three sports allow no flash, several restrict photographers whereabouts on the field. Be knowledgable of where you are and what you can do!
