Exploring Northeast BDR: A Unique Adventure

A few weeks ago expeditionteamoverland and I traveled to Northeast BDR to traverse the NE BDR. This route offers a truly unique and rewarding adventure. The route winds through the Northeast Region of the United States. We planned on doing Sections 1, 2, & 3. We did not get to the end of Section 3 as we ended at Mount Greylock.

The next trip will start at Mount Greylock and proceed north. We are planning on doing that in 2026.

If you are not familiar with the BDR, their mission is below. Check their website at https://ridebdr.com and this quote is from the BDR Website.

BDR is a 501c(3) non-profit organization. We are here to help you plan adventure motorcycling trips. This website provides you with free GPS tracks, information, and planning tools for each Backcountry Discovery Route. Plan your multi-day off-road motorcycle adventure with our free tracks, interactive maps, photos, video content as well as hotel, food & gas information. Be sure to check out the discovery points, packing lists and FAQ’s for any routes you are considering. Have fun, be safe and enjoy exploring on two wheels.

The BDR is not designed for Jeeps and other 4 wheeled vehicles but they are based upon public roads and they make for a great route to explore. Therefore, any vehicle should be able to transverse it. I would not suggest doing them in a family sedan as there are many rocky sections.

I tracked our progress using OnX, a screenshot of the route we took is below.

We previously did portions of the Mid Atlantic BDR, see these posts: Backcountry Discovery Routes – Mid Atlantic & PA Wilds BDR-X
